Bloons Tower Defense is Ninja Kiwi's original 2007 tower defense. Bloons follow a painted path. You place dart monkeys and other towers, upgrade them, and try not to leak lives.
Later Bloons TD games added heroes, maps, and a shop the size of a mall. This first Bloons Tower Defense is smaller: a handful of towers, a handful of bloon colors, and the rule that you pop layers in sequence. Reds are weak. Later colors take more hits. It is still the cleanest way to learn the series.
Bloons Tower Defense is the starter kit:
- Path-based tower defense, not a lane-march like Age of War
- Dart monkeys, tack shooters, ice, bombs, and super monkeys as the roster grows
- Cash from pops spent on placement and upgrades
- Lives lost when bloons exit the track
Bloons TD4 is a later numbered jump with more maps and polish. Start here if you have never placed a monkey.
How to Play Bloons Tower Defense
Start a round, place a dart monkey covering a long straight or a bend. Sell and rebuild only when you understand coverage. Upgrade pierce and speed before you spam the whole map. Pop leads with bombs or exploding towers when greys appear. Freeze and glue buy time, they do not replace damage.
